A newborn’s life is more than precious and very delicate. Taking care of them is of utmost importance, and the most important thing to take care of is the baby’s sleep patterns. The sleep patterns should be carefully looked after and taken care of. It’s different from normal human beings’ sleep patterns. A baby’s sleep varies depending on their age. A baby’s sleep varies depending on their age. A baby normally tends to sleep almost the entire day, but their sleep patterns are very short.

Different aspects and sleep patterns

When babies are barely 2 to 3 months old, they tend to sleep for around 16 hours approximately a day, though it is on and off. These are several short segments that last for around 40 minutes each. نوم الرضيع can be categorised into two categories: deep sleep and active sleep. Babies tend to make movements and noises while having an active sleep segment. At the same time, quiet sleep is considered a deep sleep segment. In between the several sleep segments in a day, the babies wake up and may tend to cry or grown and need help. They tend to sleep for another run of the segment. As this process goes on, the pattern slowly changes as they learn how to sleep more during the night and adapt to the day and night sleep pattern. Gradually, as time passes by, they learn to adapt to the normal sleep cycle and be active during the day instead of day sleeping during the entire daytime. Then when they turn around six months old, their sleep cycle changes. They tend to sleep only 2-3 times during the daytime and have long nighttime sleep hours. Adding up the hours approximately, they tend to sleep for around 15 hours an entire day.

Sleep patterns during 6-12 months of age phase

Sleep patterns in 6-12 months of age. With due course of time, as the baby grows, its sleep cycle tends to change. They sleep less as they grow older. Around 12 months of age, they tend to sleep for 15 hours a day. They start sleeping like adults at this phase and wake up lesser during the night. The time taken by them to fall asleep is often around 30-40 minutes or sometimes sooner than that. The naps during the daytime get lesser and lesser to around 1-2 hours a day. However, some babies tend to sleep longer than that but not for extensive long hours.

Factors and development influencing the sleep patterns

  • To keep your babies awake during this phase, it is important to keep them engaged and in a surrounding filled with light and other noises.
  • As time passes, babies acquire knowledge about the things existing around them, which means they know you are around them even if you are out of their reach and sight. This is how they call out for you. It is an interesting process about learning new things and developing.
  • There is a visible change in baby sleep cycle as they tend to grow. Sometimes, it might be not easy to control them, but it sure does get easier gradually.

To avoid SIDS(Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), certain measures are important to be taken. One of the most important pieces of advice is to let your baby sleep on their back and not on the stomach side. Taking such safety measures is necessary for good, healthy, and safe sleeping.
